Soldiers drowning sorrows after Brazil loss killed by bandits after brothel trip

The charred remains of two "drunk" soldiers who had been drowning their sorrows after Brazil's World Cup loss against Cameroon were found in a car after they had left a brothel.

Reports state that the men, one from the Navy and the other from the Army, were found dead inside a car in São Pedro da Aldeia, in the Lagos Region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last Saturday (December 3).

The men, reportedly Júlio César Mikaloske and Sidnei Lins dos Santos, had been in the beautiful Cabo Frio region to spend the weekend and watch Brazil's game against Cameroon with friends the day before.

Reports in Brazil stated that after watching the game, the "very drunk" pair went to a brothel in São Pedro da Aldeia, a municipality near to Cabo Frio.

According to the police, the victims were tortured and burned alive by bandits when they took the wrong path. It is unclear if they had been inside the brothel at this point.

One of the bodies was found in the trunk, and the other was in the back seat of the vehicle, Metropoles reported.

Police were also investigating the possibility that the duo went to a nightclub and were attacked after a fracas.

On Monday the bodies were brought to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) for identification through DNA testing.

“The agents look for images from security cameras and listen to witnesses. Diligences are underway to determine the authorship of the crime," a police statement, translated by Google, stated.

According to the district delegate, Milton Siqueira Junior, the Civil Police will only confirm the identification of the victims after the DNA result.

On social media, family and friends of Army sergeant Júlio César believe he is one of the fatal victims of the brutal crime.

Dozens of farewell messages were published, with one saying: "On this day we are very saddened by his loss, but that only makes us stronger because God received him with open arms.

"We are crying, yes we are, but with the hope that we will meet one day and that his legacy of kindness, justice, mercy bind our hearts. May your children always be the message of love and affection in the simple gesture. God will give justice!"
