A Manchester woman who last month travelled over 3,600 miles to marry a man serving a 24-year sentence for murder has explained why she’s now decided to leave him.

Naomi Wise fell for Victor Oquendo – nicknamed “Animal” – after meeting him through a website that finds pen-pals for prison inmates.

Oquendo shot dead two rivals in a gangland hit and was involved in three armed robberies.

Oquendo has so far served 12 years of his sentence which will be complete in 2052 – although he could be be eligible for parole as soon as 2034.

After a dramatic first meeting in July, Naomi – who now uses Victor’s surname – has now told her TikTok followers that she has now separated from her husband.

When the couple had their first face-to-face meeting on July 11, Naomi described how her husband grabbed her face and gave her an "intense kiss”

She later said: “You know that man has been waiting 12 years. That kiss was a 12-year build up of no contact for this man.

"The correction offers were like, 'you can stop now’.”

But now, less than two months later, she says she’s calling time on the relationship – at least for now.

Naomi says that while she hasn’t “got a bad word to say” about her husband, her needs are not being met.

"I believe whole heartedly, he is my soulmate, he is my other half, and we are made for each other,” she told her TikTok followers.

However,” she added, “sometimes love is not enough."I had reached a point where I was pouring everything I had into fixing and helping him that I completely lost myself.

"I believe in a partnership, things should be equal, and as much as you give, you should receive, and I didn't feel like I was getting that anymore."

She explained that she’d seen a Netflix programme about relationships that had given her a new perspective on her life.

She said: "I'll forever love him & hold his last name. There's no one else I want to be with, I hope we get our happy ending."
