Barmaid with amnesia wakes up thinking she’s six years old and fiancé is paedo

A barmaid with severe amnesia says she wakes up regularly believing she is just six-years-old and believing her fiancé has kidnapped her.

Chloe Barnard, 29, forgets all of her memories and wakes up not knowing who her fiancé is or where she is due to a rare brain condition.

Her condition means she wakes up next to her partner of nine years and has absolutely no idea who he is, believing that James Cavill, 39, has kidnapped her.

Chloe's memory thankfully returns within 24 hours but it leaves James having to calm the 29-year-old down alongside her parents, Trish, 49, and David, 56.

On several occasions, Chloe is said to have called James a paedophile, threaten him with a spanner and attempts to convince strangers to call the police.

Chloe, from Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, said: "I can go back to being any age. I've been back to being six years old. That was horrifying.

"I went downstairs and there was a stairgate, I didn't recognise the house but I thought 'it must be mine because there's a staircase and I'm only six'.

"My partner was on the sofa with the dog, which I didn't know was mine. I sat on the stairs and said 'who are you and who is the dog? I want my mummy and my daddy'."

She continued speaking of the bizarre incident, adding: "He knew what to do and not to panic. He got me back upstairs and he got into bed completely naked and told me to get into bed.

"I told him I wasn't getting into bed with a paedo and that I want my mummy and daddy. I was stood there with my nan's teddy bear."

Chloe, a lorry driver and barmaid, says she has these episodes once every couple of months, likely triggered by lack of sleep or stress, but could be linked to a stroke she had when she was just 19.

Chloe added: "I just have to deal with it but it shatters you out, it can take a whole week to recover."
