Shark found sliced in half on beach raises fears even bigger monster attacked it

A shark found sliced in half and washed up on a beach in Canada has left Reddit users wondering what could have caused its death.

Online forum posters responded to a post from a user on the r/sharks subreddit, where a user shared a photo of a shark cut in half.

The user said they "saw this poor guy yesterday" on a beach in Oak Island, Canada, and the post, which received hundreds of upvotes, has left users fearing for what could have attacked the shark.

Attached to the image was a question from the original poster, who asked users what could have left the shark cut in half, with some citing a shark attack.

Identifying the shark, one user claimed it was an "Atlantic Sharpnose," with their guess "based on the nose shape, white spots, and dark backside of the dorsal."

Several users were more concerned with how the shark was killed than identifying the species, with one user shooting down claims of it being a horrific propeller accident.

In response to one comment claiming it could have been a propeller, they wrote: "This was not a boat accident! This wasn't any propeller. This wasn't any coral reef. And it wasn't Jack the Ripper."

Another user replied: "It was a shark, great white shark. Definitely not a great white but I've seen many sharks eaten by other sharks. There's always a bigger fish."

A third backed the claim that it was a shark attack that left the smaller shark severed in half, writing: "Another shark would do that all day every day."

With the original poster asking for "any ideas what kind [of shark] it is?" some users took the opportunity to joke about the state of the shark.

One user joked that "it's clearly half a shark," while another cited the finding as "leftovers".
