Fans of The Sims in Russia won't be able to purchase the game's new wedding-themed expansion pack because of the country's strict anti-LGBTQ laws.
The new game pack, called 'My Wedding Stories', is set to introduce a new 'romantic' game world called Tartosa.
This will let your Sims travel to a wedding-themed town where they can host engagement parties, stag dos, rehearsal dinners, and all of the usual bells and whistles that come with holy matrimony.
As with all Sims games, the Sims are automatically bisexual and can couple up with other Sims of the same gender, so same-sex marriages are present in the game.
To promote the game expansion, EA created a storytelling element about a same-sex couple, Dom and Cam—but Russian censorship laws would have forced it to change or remove the story.
As a result, the game won't be available in Russia.
In an open letter, EA said: "We are steadfast in upholding that commitment by shining a light on and celebrating stories like Dom and Cam’s, so we have made the decision to forgo the release of “My Wedding Stories” where our storytelling would be subject to changes because of federal laws."
"Regrettably, this means that members of TheSims community in Russia will not be able to purchase this game pack."
Russia has a strict 'gay propaganda' law which gives the government the power to fine people, deport them, and even shut down businesses that publish content which mentions LGBTQ people.

The Sims 4 was sold as an 18+ game in Russia upon its release in order to comply with the laws, which would have forced it to change its in-game content. In Europe and elsewhere, The Sims is recommended for ages 12 and up.
Everywhere else in the world will be able to access the new game pack on February 17, 2022.
Prior to the update, weddings in The Sims were a more basic affair, lasting around 9 hours in-game. The new expansion goes much bigger and even lets you host regional weddings, so you can have a Chinese or Hindu wedding for your Sims.
