Some of us just use Instagram for personal pictures and scrolling through funny cat clips, but some of us want a bit more from the platform.
Perhaps you want to share your baked goods or recipe ideas, or show off your adventures abroad, carefully-selected outfits or newly-renovated house room by room.
Whatever your chosen topic, you’ll likely start paying more attention to the number of people who follow you on Instagram – as well as the number of likes and engagements you’re getting on posts.
So, when’s the best time to post to make the most of your content?
Here’s what you need to know.

Well, the answer varies – depending on who you ask.
A study by Compare The Market found that Instagram users tended to use the app straight after work, likely on their commute home.
So it also recommended that you upload to the picture-sharing app as soon as you have left the office, between 4.30 to 6.30pm.
Meanwhile, social media company Later writes on its blog that 6am is the optimal time for a post.
While social scheduling app Hootsuite goes one further, suggesting there are different times to post each day – such as 11am on Wednesday and 12pm on Thursday.
However, now that people can opt to look at chronological feeds again (rather than feeds ordered by an algorithm), things might start to work a bit differently going forwards.
Ultimately, you might find there is a better time to post based on your own content niche and audience. For example, you might find your specific followers respond best to evening posts.
If you have a business profile, you can use Instagram Analytics to determine when’s best to post.
More tips to get Instagram followers and likes
The key to Instagram success is to post content on a regular basis, such as once per day.
You can’t just post any old rubbish, though – to put your best foot forward, you’ll need to post good quality images or graphics, and make sure the content is of interest to an audience.
That doesn’t mean you need a fancy camera. Your smartphone and normal photo-taking skills will often do. Nor does it mean you need to use loads of filters or edit your pictures.
Video posts also do well on Instagram, not just images, so you’ll need to get to grips with Instagram Story and Instagram Reels.
And don’t just ‘post and ghost’, you’ll also want to engage with anyone liking your posts or following you.
You could try asking your followers a direct question in the caption of your post, run a poll on Instagram Story, or ask your followers for their opinions on relevant topics.
You’ll also want to make use of Instagram’s hashtags – by popping some relevant tags in your caption.
Choose a mix of very popular hashtags (with millions of posts already tagged) as well as smaller tags, to give yourself a chance to stand out.
There’s also the obvious: tagging your location when you’ve been somewhere exciting or are posting about a particular restaurant, for example, or ‘@’ mentioning the brand.
And, here’s another obvious one, make sure your account’s not set to private, so people can discover your content.
