WhatsApp brings back popular ‘help’ feature that will be a lifesaver for users

One of the most frustrating things about owning a smartphone is the lack of personal support when things go wrong.

You might be waiting days or even weeks for an email from support staff, or even worse, stuck in a hour-long hold queue at a call centre.

On apps like WhatsApp or Instagram, even that isn't an option—until now.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is adding a new 'help' feature which will allow you to access help and support from directly within the app.

That means if you encounter any problems while using it, someone will be on-hand to help you directly.

Whether you're having issues receiving notifications or need to recover your chat history, a representative will be able to help you by messaging you while you're logged in.

WABetaInfo explains that although this feature used to be present on the app, it mysteriously vanished as the app moved to offer support through its website instead.

Now, you'll be able to contact WhatsApp directly by going to WhatsApp Settings > Help > Contact Us.

It's important to make sure you're actually talking to WhatsApp. Chats with WhatsApp support will always be marked with a green tick, so make sure it's there before giving away any sensitive information or following instructions.

How to try out WhatsApp beta features on your Android or iPhone

You'll need to be signed up to the WhatsApp beta programme in order to use the feature. To try it out, follow these steps:

  1. Open WhatsApp and tap the three dots, then head to 'More Options'
  2. Tap Linked Devices
  3. Hit 'Multi-device beta'

The WhatsApp beta is where the app developers test new and experimental features for the messaging app before releasing them to the general public.

If you join the beta programme, you'll get to try out nifty new features on a weekly basis, such as message reactions, a new app layout, cryptocurrency payments, and even voice note previews.
