WhatsApp looks set to introduce a massive new change that could make navigating the messaging app a whole lot easier.
Over two billion people use WhatsApp around the world, turning to the platform for socialising, shopping and even business tasks.
In the US, WhatsApp is already testing the use of cryptocurrency payments.
With the huge amount of overlap, it can get confusing with a multitude of groups, media and voice messages clogging up the app.
Meta, the parent company that owns WhatsApp (along with Facebook), is therefore making it easier for businesses to sort through the onslaught of messages.
Users of WhatsApp Business (a separate version of the chat app) will soon be able to search through chats and sort them into different groups: contacts, non-contacts and unread.
This should mean that customer services handled through WhatsApp are swifter and more responsive – benefitting all the people on the service that use it to interact with brands.
Furthermore, if the feature makes its way into the fully-fledged consumer version of WhatsApp then all users may be able to organise their chats more effectively.
The main version of WhatsApp already allows you to search for media and documents in specific chats. But having more options to organise your chats wholesale is always welcome.
So far, the new options have been spotted on the WhatsApp Business beta version.
They look likely to drop in on both iOS and Android at some point.
‘WhatsApp is not planning to release it on WhatsApp Messenger, since they are more useful on WhatsApp Business,’ explained WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp-focused blog that first uncovered the new feature.
