Nine years after its release, Grand Theft Auto V remains the most successful media title of all time, beating out the likes of The Avengers and even Call of Duty.
Thanks to its varied multiplayer mode, GTA Online, GTA V is still going strong with a diehard of fans. Developer Rockstar Games has worked hard to keep it constantly updated over the years, and even found time to squeeze in some controversial remasters of its earlier games.
However, GTA fans are a restless bunch, and as we enter 2022, the question on everyone's lips is: where is GTA 6?
While the next instalment in the blockbuster video game franchise is still yet to be announced formally, there have been some bold rumours and leaks about the game's setting, size, and release date. These have been compounded by a recent investors' report which sets out a timeline for the release of GTA 6 as well as Red Dead Redemption III.
So when is GTA 6 coming out? Here's everything we know so far.
Where will GTA 6 be set?
Numerous leaks have suggested that Grand Theft Auto 6 will take place in the same Miami-inspired setting as GTA III, namely, Vice City.
An Instagram account claiming that Vice City would be the setting for GTA 6 also said the game would feature hurricanes, alligators, and Fortnite-style map updates, as well as a Caribbean section.
Purported leaked images of the game map suggested it will be up to three times bigger than that of the previous instalment, GTA V, which had a vast game world.
The account, 'ThatsSoBold', was quickly banned after making the post, leading some to believe the would-be leaker was right on the money.
Given that GTA V returned to the same setting as the earlier Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas city of Los Santos, it would make sense for the next instalment to feature a revamped version of Vice City.

When is the GTA 6 release date?
Although Rockstar itself is keeping mum about when GTA 6 will be released, an investor report into its parent company Take-Two Interactive has given a strong tip-off as to when fans can expect the next-gen instalment in the series.
The report reads: "Shortly, the company has two high-profile announcements planned, namely GTA 6 in 2023 and Red Dead Redemption 3 (2025/26)," adding that both games will bring increased revenue for the company.
That means the game could be landing in the next two years, with an official announcement even sooner.
One GTA fan took to Reddit to make a predictive 'timeline' of a GTA 6 release. He predicts that October will see a GTA 6 announcement followed by a trailer in November. October 2023 will see official screenshots and another trailer, and he believes that the game will drop in November 2024.
Of course, given Rockstar's track record for remastering its earlier games repeatedly, we might be more likely to see a Playstation 5 or Xbox Series X | S remaster of Grand Theft Auto V first.
