A historian has dismissed the sightings of the legendary Bigfoot in a Staffordshire forest but does believe big cats roam the area.
People had been searching for over a decade for the half-man, half ape creature in Cannock Chase after investigator Lee Brickley found tracks and claw marks he believes belong to the beast.
Locals say the forest is haunted by supernatural beings with some even suggesting iconic monsters such as Black Eyed Child, Pig Man and even Slender Man.
However, historian Richard Pursehouse has published several books on Cannock Chase but feels some of the theories are a ‘step too far’.
Speaking to Black Country Live, he said: “There has been plenty of sightings of various stuff – but Bigfoot, it is one step too far.
"It is not big enough an area.
"I have seen a big cat, twice, but I would imagine it is dead by now.”
Mr Pursehouse went on to say that Bigfoot cannot even be proven in America and Canada.

Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, are said to inhabit North America but there is yet to be any hard evidence of their existence.
The only creature the historian has laid eyes on himself is a giant Puma but it was over a decade ago when he last saw it.
Mr Pursehouse said: “It was a puma, a full black puma. It was about 12 years ago. They can live for 30 odd years.

"The first time I saw it, it was quite a distance. The second time, it was like 'oh, there is that funny looking black Labrador again'.
"I thought 'it is not – it is a black cat'. There is enough deer over there and a lot were released over Cannock Chase since the 1960s and 1970s.”
He believes the animal could thrive at Cannock Chase due to having plenty of deer to eat there, which he estimates at 3,500.
Big cat sightings in the UK have occurred quite often over the years and across the country.
However, some of the video and photographic evidence of encounters has not been clear enough to properly identify the creature.
