Samsung is launching a trio of laptops in the UK and two of them arrive with a feature that’s totally new. The latest Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion both include a clever QI wireless charger hidden under the trackpad which means you can boost the battery on your smartphone straight from these laptops.
That’s a nice little added bonus but there are plenty more things packed inside these devices that could have their rivals concerned.
First up let’s take a look at the Galaxy Book Flex which includes a 13.3-inch QLED display which flips over so it can be used as a tablet. To make things more useful, Samsung has tucked a Galaxy Note-style pen inside the case so you can draw and scribble on the screen without using your finger.
This S Pen can also control presentations remotely which could be useful when we all get out of lockdown. Other extras include a fast-charging battery, fingerprint scanner, powerful 10th Gen Intel i5 processor and quick Wi-Fi 6 wireless connectivity.
If you like using your laptop outside then there’s also a special mode which increases the display to a maximum 600-nits so you should be able to see your content even under bright sunlight.

So that’s the Flex but the other laptop that arrives with the battery-boosting trackpad is the Galaxy Ion.
This device comes with either a 13.3-inch or 15.6-inch QLED screen and include that useful bright mode for outdoor working.
Again, there’s a fast refilling battery with both models able to keep going for over 20 hours on a single charge.
The Ion is powered by Intel’s 10th Gen (Comet Lake) processor and there’s some nice bonuses such as a fingerprint scanner, AKG stereo speakers and a MicroSD card slot.
Samsung says the Ion has been made to be powerful but portable and is made with ultralight magnesium. It measured in at just 12.9/14.9mm thick and weighs less than a kilogram.
The final addition to Samsung’s range of laptops is a new version of the Galaxy Book S which gets an Intel processor.
Samsung now produces two versions of this ultra-slim PC with a Qualcomm-powered model already on sale.
The Korean firm says that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx version remains ideal for those that want the ultimate battery life and constant connectivity as it includes a 4G mobile connection.
If you want a bit more grunt and improved compatibility then the Intel version of this laptop will suit you better.
If any of these laptops take your fancy then they will be released next month with pricing as follows.
Galaxy Book Flex • £1,349 – available in Royal Blue and Aura Silver
Galaxy Book Ion • £1,249 (13-inch) £1,299 (15-inch) – available in Aura Silver
